Common Questions

How much does this cost?

Typical custom carvings cost from $1500 to $6000, based on the time it will take to carve, what type of wood the carving is on, and the distance your site is from me.

Do you stain or paint the carvings?

All carvings are stained and given a lacquer coat finish. Often some enamel is used as well for eyes. If your vision includes intricate color, then I will paint it as well with highlight and shading to really make it pop

What about the mess?

Chainsaw carvings leave a lot of sawdust and wood chips! In the future I hope to offer a clean up service in addition to the carving for those who wish it. For now though I do not have the equipment or storage to takeaway the material. If you have wooded area on your property clean up would be a sinch. If not a landscaper or arborist can help you with that if you so desire, or if you are close we can work out a cleanup plan together.

How long will my carving last?

With proper care an outdoor carving can last a lifetime! Indoor carvings can last generations. I’ll start you with a good lacquer coat and if the carving is outside, as most are, it needs another coat every 2 to 3 years.
